COLLECTABLES

Museum Level 2

Collecting toys amongst collectors have evolved beyond a mere community of hobbyists. Apart from merely looking at the rarity of specific toys, the collection can also tell stories from the past. In Level 2: Collectables, our vintage toy collection not only showcases the types of toys from the Industrial Revolution but also give you an insight on how toys can be the motivation behind social and political movements of the past.

RICKSAW WITH SAILOR

Curated under the Theme of: Golden Age of Toys Industrial Revolution

By the 1900s, ricksaws became popular modes of transport in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Especially in Singapore, it would be a common sight to see ricksaw pullers picking up sailors who had just arrived at our port.

With the invention of cars and other fuelled-powered vehicles, the sight of rickshaws eventually disappeared around the world and there are very limited places that feature them as a tourist activity in these days.
